Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these simple steps to get started with the Bucket Test or watch this video.

Step 1.

Fill the Bucket

  • Place a 5-gallon bucket on the top step of your pool.
  • Fill the bucket with pool water until the water level inside is equal to the pool’s water level outside.
  • Mark the water level inside the bucket using a marker or waterproof tape.
Step 2.

Let It Sit for 24 Hours

  • Ensure the pool pump remains off to get the most accurate results.
  • Leave the bucket undisturbed for 24 hours.
Step 3.

Compare Water Levels

  • After 24 hours, measure the water levels inside the bucket and the pool.
  • If the pool’s water level dropped more than the bucket’s water level, you likely have a leak.
  • If both levels dropped the same amount, the water loss is due to evaporation.
